PONDOK
PEKAK - I know the place
for many years and never realized how many great things they doing. Laurie
Billington, the owner of the Pondok Pekak, liked the idea that we put
Bali for Kids.com together and is now quite happy to have the Pondok pekak
with lots of activities on it. Unfortunately money is always an issue
for the Pondok Pekak - they just had to stop the open Gamelan Classes
for the kids, as there is no money to pay the teacher. Very sad as they
have wonderful instruments there and many kids these days cannot afford
to pay a teacher. If the kids don't learn playing Gamelan who will play
in the temples? Who will play at the performances? Can you imagine a Bali
without the ding-dong of the Gamelan? So if you interested in sponsoring
the teacher again just contact the Pondok Pekak or just pop in and talk
to Laurie, she hangs out there most of the time. If you stay in Ubud with
your kids, you could pay the teacher for a
month and sent your kids there for free. Wouldn't that be nice? And what
a nice memory for your kids to bring back home? And while they have their
class you can hang out in one of the many places around the Foot Ball
Field and enjoy a nice fresh drink. |

SMILE SHOP and YAYASAN
SENYUM are operating now a few months. Their great second hand
shop in Ubud - TOKO SMILE - is raising money to pay many poor people with
cranio-facial disabilities operations. I like the idea of simple generating
money without the loose of administration, etc. The funny ladies at the
SMILE SHOP are all volunteers and you are very welcome to join so the
shop can open its doors longer and can sell more. Seeing the incredible
before/after pictures of kids which got operations from the Yayasan Senyum
- it is absolutely heard-warming. I met Mary Northmore, one of the YAYASAN
SENYUM ladies at the Garlic Club Bazar in Seminyak. She told me that they
really doing well with the help of people donating brand new or second
hand items for sell at the shop. Please if you have any stuff sitting
around in your factory, home, shop drop them of at the SMILE SHOP in Ubud
or at the BIWA in Sanur. Each piece helps to change the live of a child!
They have a house in Denpasar for their patients and their families. You
are very welcome to donate anything they can use there too (Food, money,

LESTARI
GRILL AND PASTA
has open right in the center of Umalas Horse Riding Stables. Food and
Drinks for moms and dads. Horses and a big pool for the kids. It is definitely
a place for pasta and grill lovers. They made a nice little kids menu
- vegetables, pasta, fish and a drink included. The location is great
during the day to have the kids riding and the parents relaxing on the
pool (Breakfast and Lunch - Check with Umalas Stables for booking the
horses!). For the evening Lestari offers a bigger menu with western style
food as well as Indonesian food. A little playground and fun water toys

DOJO
AORA in Seminyak
is a real finding for Bali for Kids.com. Claude Thouvenel, a lovely French
man dedicated to Martial Arts, has opened 2 years ago a dojo in Western
standards. It is a really nice place, which has nothing to do with any
image you have in mind from any Karate, etc movie. Light open space, big
mirrors, high sealing with many fans, fresh air, a little bar in the back
for parents and students. Claude and his assistant teacher have a very
calm way to teach the kids, but keep up discipline at any time. The kids
love the experience of 'legally' fighting and we hope more kids will join,
so Dojo Aora can open more classes, such as Capoeira etc. Claude keeps
the prices down so many kids are able to join. Outfits for the classes
are all made from 100% cotton. Read more about Dojo Aora and what classes
they offer on our Sport-Page. |

| BALI
BUDDHA is more
than just a Health Food Store and Cafe, they are for me an institution.
Organic food and natural remedies, and all, if I need, delivered to my
house. What I like most on Bali Buddha is, that they really make an effort
- personal and envoirmentaly. Even if I ask them for the most unusual
things, they always give it a go. My favorites are their Nasi Campur,
the Tomato Soup and their 100% Rye Bread, nobody makes a better one. There
is a small secret tip: Ask them for their Red Rice Bread. You have to
order in advance and it has to be frozen and than toasted. Topped with
coconut oil it is a delight and super healthy! - Out of my own experience
I can guarantee Bali Buddha is in every situation kids-friendly. Additional
Bali Buddha is serving many schools around Bali organic lunches for their
students. When are you going organic? Check them out on our Food-Page. |

SACADO
is probably one of the coolest kids fashion stores in Bali. Their small
store in the heart of Seminyak has some of the funkiest styles for kids
I have seen in town. French designer David Barbereau, a father of five
kids himself, creates new styles so fast that each time I pass by the
store there are new styles in display. Beaded and printed with fun-creative
styles to prices you can still pay. At Sacado not just the styles are
cool, the materials are well selected too, which I believe is so important.
Check them out at our Clothing-Page. |

SKOEBI-DO
Child Care Center in Canggu was opened just a few weeks ago. It is the
place for kids from 3 months until 4 years to hang out with other kids
or if mom needs a little break...! ("Gosh, I wish it was there when
my child was little." Editor Bali for Kids.com) The Center was set
up with lots of love and understanding for needs of little kids - it's
more a "Day-mom's" place than a center. You can drop your child
for a 1/2 day or regular. Skoebi-do is open for locals, expats and tourists.
One of the most remarkable facts for me: The whole time I was there the
place was calm. Now and than a little cry, but no hyper or over stimulating
set up for little ones. Skoebi-do has a little pool - they plan to do
Baby-Swim-Classes soon - and lovely little bedrooms if Sandman is overwhelming
your little on. Skoebi-do is taking care of the individual development
and character of each child. Make "Skoebi-do" on our Play-Page. |

MANIK
ORGANIK Health
Food and Remedy Store in Sanur has just opened a few months ago. They
have a lot of really healthy herbs and other natural products. When I
entered Manik Organik the first time there was a wonderful smell of food
around - they just prepared for the lunch table that day. The place is
easy to find and close to all the other big spots in Sanur. Charly, the
energetic manager of Manik Organic is a fun woman and I am looking forward
what else she is coming up with in the future... Once a week, on Thursday
night, they hosting the Organic Market - already a classic in Ubud. Additional
Manik Organik got a big yoga space upstairs with already regular classes.
Manik Organik is a great new place with lots of things happening... Check
them out on our Food-Stuff-Page. |

DIJON
Food Specialties in Kuta is for me a kind of symbol. Okay, if you just
here a few years, you don't know how it was when all this lovely restaurants
and stores did not exist and the supermarkets only had the normal Indo
Food. After I spent 6 month on Bali's East Coast, where at these times
you could not even get milk, butter or cheese nor a good piece of chocolate,
I passed by Dijon, which just had opened its doors and I felt like I was
in heaven. They had it all. Pickled food, my favorite pasta, chocolate
from home and... the best rum balls in town. Today, Dijon is more on the
delicatessen side, but runs a few really good lines of food and other
stuff. I know, my friend Ni Zain sent her clients there to get their vitamins,
if she recommends them, they got some quite natural stuff there. For us
they always have a nice treat we cannot get somewhere else. So, already
"dijoned" with your kids today??? Find more about them on our
Food-Stuff-Page. |

TEAK TREE FARMS in the mountains
of Bedugual is a perfect example what one can do for the world. Think
global, act local. Sayu Putri a teacher of the Bali Hotel School had a
vision of reforestation and just made it. She contracted land, planted
teak trees and filled up the space with Vanilla and Cacao plants. You
can buy a tree for 300.000Rp and plant it if there is tree stock. Some
groups get more than 100 trees! In 25 years you can decided if you want
to cut the tree or if it stays. Thousands of trees have been planted by
now! Sayu offers trips to her farm for anybody interested. Trips can get
organized with pick-up-transport or self-driver. In buying a tree or joining
a trip, you help in reforestation and help low income families. What a
wonderful gift for a child! Profits from trips and the farm are used to
help children of the village to go to school and in their education. Please
buy trees and call Sayu Putri to organize a trip for you... Find more
details on our Social-Page. |

| WAKA
LAND CRUISE
has set up a great tip to the real Bali. The trip is showing wonderful
sights of Bali, such as from tourisem unchanged villages with women and
man at their daily work. With unseen land sights and natural springs.
The Land Rover Trip starts at 8-9h in the morning and ends around 17-18h
depends on your location in Bali. There are several stops and the driver-guide
explains Bali at his best. Waka Land Cruises are suitable for children

on your back as there are some places to walk down and up. Children with
around 4 years can easily manage, kids around 6 and older will be stunned

DESA
SENI RESORT
in Canggu is an outstanding wonderful place created by following old Balinese
building rules, spirits and culture in each stage of building and running
the resort. The resort is build from old houses from all over Indonesia,
furniture is all recycled - hardly any new materials have been used to
create Desa Seni. Almost all food which is served in Desa Seni is produced
organically on Desa Seni land. In landscaping no changes has been done
to the land, so natural spirits and foundations are kept almost untouched.
Desa Seni is kids heaven - so much to explore and many exciting things
for kids. They have special children beds on request, a kids part of the
pool with lots of toys, toys and drawing items in the restaurant and last
but not least many classes for children, such as Dance of Joy for the
whole family, Yoga for Kids and on request a Balinese dance class which
includes the dressing part too. More classes for kids and adults are under
process. Already many families are spending their time and holidays at
Desa Seni and we are very happy to offer Desa Seni now on Bali for Kids.com
to all of our readers. Desa Seni is open for everyone - in house guest
as well as day-guests with their children to use the pool, visit classes,
eat in the restaurant (try their carrot cake with mangos... YUMMY!) or
for their spa menu. For more info about Desa Seni check out our holidays-page

GREEN
SCHOOL AT THE KUL-KUL CAMPUS is our first school entry on our education page. The Green School is right now still under process in being build. The location of the school is in between two pieces of land connected by bridges. Buildings are from natural materials such as bamboo and simply earth. The campus is really quite outstanding. A parent I talk to said it is quite futuristic. But the schools goal is to build a bridge for children for a better future. As the owner of the school - John Hardy - has many contacts all over the world, he is able to bring many people in with several backgrounds to build up a wide spectrum of education. The school will start to operate in September with around 80 students, some of them in boarding school. The school will sponsor several children who are note able to pay the fee. Perhaps the Green School will in the future inspire other schools - specially public school - in their ways of education. Right now the school is already running some very interesting programs. Check out our Event Calendar regular, as we get all their events right on our events. If you want to know more about the Green School check them our on our Education Page. |

SEA TREK ADVENTURE - Hi kids! My name is Tristan, I am 5 years old and I went on a 3 day cruise with my mom, dad and friends to Lombok. We were on a very beautiful sailing boat, her name is Katharina, and the boat looks like an old Pirate Ship, but isn’t old at all... Everything was very luxurious, we even had air conditioning in our cabin! We cruised from Bali to Gili T in only 2,5 hours, where I saw a tortoise while snorkeling with my dad! The beaches and the sea are so blue up there! At sunset we had dinner on board and we were sleeping at the anchor (that means that the boat doesn’t move, the anchor keeps it still). The next morning we saw the sun coming up, that was sooo cool, my dad and I were fishing from the boat but the fishes were not hungry! But I was! We had warm croissants for breakfast and many other yummy things! We visited many cool places in Lombok that day, and at the end of the afternoon we returned back to the Katharina and cruised us to the most beautiful little island I have ever seen. There we had a BBQ on the beach. The crew of the boat had become my friends, they played the whole time with me, we wrote my name from sea shelves that we had found and I helped them making the fire! During the BBQ my mum and even my dad were dancing on the music the crew made for us! We slept really well that night under the beautiful sky! The next day we sailed to Lembongan Island, where some of our friends visited the island, while we stayed and played on the beach. I was sooo sad that our trip was over, I want to go again as soon as possible!!! - More about the Sea Treak Adventure on our Adventure-Page. |
