Something about Black Henna Tattoos by NI LAH from our newsletter 20/01/2007: Here is something interesting I found on http://tattoo.about.com. Two Children were injured by Black Henna:
Two North Jersey families are suing "a US black henna distributor" after their children were permanently scarred by black henna tattoos they received while on a vacation. Black henna contains harmful ingredients that can burn the skin and cause mild to severe reactions. Natural henna tattoos are perfectly safe and stain the skin a brownish-orange tinge that lasts a couple of weeks and gradually fades. Black henna is actually hair dye and contains a toxic chemical, PPD, that is not meant to be used on the skin. Stay away from black henna! Sunday January 7, 2007 - So make sure in the future what they put you on! Unfortunately I heard even that they not just use Black Henna, but also normally hair dye is used. Imagine running around for weeks with hair dye on your skin??? Considering a tattoo, make sure they really use tattoo colors. I nearly got one of my tattoos done with "Rotring - Ink for pencils". This ink is highly toxic and contains Manganese Oxide, which is even dangerous to breath in. Manganese Oxide is used in all which is black. It is the black dye in thousands of products... Manganese Oxide is used to dye the glassier of ceramics, but as soon as you use the glassier with Manganese Oxide, you should not use it for any food, as the Manganese Oxide can be released by food acids.

He gave us a link to a web site on it "a Russian story about soy-feed killing baby rats that first appeared on the internet some years back continues to be raised through press-releases and internet discussions, but as far as GMO Pundit can ascertain, has yet to be professionally published in peer-reviewed scientific journals." I found it pretty scary and thought it might do well on Bali for Kids.com. Thanks Tim for sending us the link to it.
