Meva - Always on the Ball- 07/12/2011

Did you know that Bali got an upcoming star in the Golf World? Her name is Meva Schmit and she lives in Sanur. Her mom is from Borneo, her dad is French and they both support her in any way they can. Meva is right now the top rank in her age in Indonesia and starts playing in higher age levels - where she wins too! So who is that little wonder girl at the greens all over Indonesia? Bali for Kids.com meet her on a sunny afternoon down at the Potato Head in Petitenget.

B4K: Hallo Meva, nice to meet you in this wonderful place. Can you first give us some details about you?

Meva: Thanks! I am 10 years old, live in Sanur, go to Gandhi Memorial InternationalSchool. I have no sisters or bothers. And I play golf...

B4K: So when did you play the first time golf?

Meva: With 3 1/2 years. I got my first real cups, but I already played before that. My dad loves to play golf and he was teaching me.

B4K: And ever since you have been playing golf?

Meva: Yes, I meet my trainer Robert Turvey 2 times a week for training and twice a week I play on my own.

B4K: Wow, that is a lot and you are playing tournaments too and going to school. So is there any time to have other funs?

Meva: Sure. I love to hang out with my friends from the "SAMY" team. They are my friends Shivani, Ambu and Yaya and of course me. I like to be busy, as in school holidays I am quite bored. I like to go to kidzania in Jakarta. I enjoy to play there to be the detective or judge. But I also like to go swimming, ice skating and go to places like Waterbom or Lollipop Playgrounds.

B4K: Back to golfing. How many registered girls are there right now playing?

Meva: We are only 10 girls, as many of the others who do play golf are not registered.

B4K: Can you tell us a bit about your golfing career?

Meva: Yes, I would like to sharing my journey during the Java Tour in my school holidays last summer.
1) June 15-17 Indonesia Junior Golf Open in Jagorawi West Java, 138 juniors boys and girls participants. I was happy to meet new golfer friends from all over Indonesia. It was fun and I had a good time with them - not only on the golf course. I am number 4 from 10 participants of my division
2) June 21-22 Junior Golf Championship in Rawamangun, this golf course is the same as Bali Beach here in Bali - a narrow course with many trees. I won Best Gross 3.
3) June 27-28 Java Junior League 1 in Bandung, I liked to play there. The weather was the same like in Bedugul. I won Best Gross 1
4) June 30 - July 1 Java Junior League 2 in Semarang, this course has the green multi-slopes and many bunkers almost at every hole. I won Best Gross 2
5) July 4-5 Java Junior League 3 in Surabaya, hot........same as in Bali, my score first day was 89 and 89. My friend Tania played on the first day 90 and the last day 88, the total score is the same as me but because this tournament we played in 2 days the committee took the last day of the score, there is no play off for my division. I won Best Gross 2 but my point in PGI Junior Jakarta will be same as my friend Tania won Best Gross 1 because we had the same result.
6) The results off my tournament Java Junior League playing in 3 places (Bandung-Semarang-Surabaya) I won Best Gross 2

B4K: What a successful summer holiday. Must have been great to travel around and playing golf with your friends.... So which ones are your favorite courses?

Meva: Well, they all are. Only the one in Samarang is really hard. There is lots of water and the bunkers are so deep, I cannot see anything as I am still not as tall as an adult.

B4K: Meva, what is your goal in the future? You are already no 1 right now in your age group...

Meva: I like to be No 1 in the world! And also build golf courts.

B4K: Seams like you really got great plans for the future, Bali for Kids.com wished you the best. Thanks so much for the interview and keep us updated on your career, I am sure we will hear more from you soon.

By the way Meva is right now ranking No 1 in Bali since September period 2011 - 2012, national since 6 November for period 2011 - 2012 Meva now is ranking No 1 on D division - girls under 11 year.
