The Room Of My Six Year Old Daughter |
|
|
Have you ever cleaned the room of a 6 year old? Well, today I had the honor to do so. We just moved 2 month ago and my daughter had finally her own room – This morning, after she was sitting with 4 pencils on the table to do her homework – out of about 50 she had when we moved – I decided that it was really time to have a better look at this “room”. I lived in the illusion that my child’s totally super messy set up will get better once she has her very own space… It was an illusion - Okay… just imagine each bag in your house is stuffed with tissues, Barbie shoes, pencils, marbles, bits of cut and tiered paper, pieces of puzzles, bracelets from India and Bali, beads, ect. But no, not just all backpacks, bags were stuffed with such. There are about 10 once empty tooth paste boxes as well as the boxes from my coffee – around 5. All stuffed with mirrors, erasers, crayons, more pieces of puzzles, magic wands, hairclips, hair bands… some stuff given from friends, some from mom who by herself cannot resist when she sees a cute little something for 2000 rp. We than also took out the books…. Behind the books was another collection of paper junk, water colors, items to do dough, dough itself in different colors – two books got even married with a big pieces of dough. In one book I finally found two hairclips I was looking for quite for some time – the good ones she use to wear if we would go out to a party. They were used to keep some pages together…. I got a very creative child! More stuff was found in boxes and little bags on her table. All really put together from all over the place – Playing cards, marbles, pencils, more Indian bracelets – wonder how they became so much just in two weeks since she got them - almost each box and bag had one in them…. There must have been an Indian bracelet interbreeding somewhere in the room. Some people call such a collage. Last week my child complained that she got no socks anymore….??? Well today we found at least 3 ½ pairs of socks stuffed into t-shirts, boxes, bags and soft toys – one was used as a scarf for a teddy bear. Miracle in the rice fields…. I than had a look under the bed, where things were kicked and put if she was in a rush to clean up her room. There are still two places undone by now – one level of a rag – full of cds, princess crowns and towels! Quite strange combination, but at least all is one color – rose! At least one time I found a system in the room. One level of stuff just in rose, but I think it was more or less quincidence? Or not? A plan? A structure? I have to go deeper into this. But I was pretty surprised by the creative outbreaks we found – more than 20 handmade books with full stories in them. Made with the use of moms office paper and paper clips – no wonder I ran out of both of them. I finally found my best scissors again – they went missing 6 weeks ago. Rolled into some origami paper, covered with 5 layers of tape, painted on and covered with ribbons, all this rolled in a little bag, which was stuffed into another bag. I remember, I was also on a packing trip as a little child – once I packed all the wood carving knifes of my father in Christmas paper with ribbons around – 50 of them! This was in August – my father was a wood carver – can you image the trouble I got? So must be in the gens somehow…. Another box is still undone… I might just leave it to the pembantu… I saw strange things moving in there… Snakes? Geckoes? Well on Monday I will know when my pembantu jumps around in the parking lot killing breads of unknown origin. So how could this have happened? Well, guess it was the shortcut to “Please clean your room!” Which is actually more: “Please clear up the floor, that I am able to enter the bathroom…” Well, the tables and floor were clean, but only the surface. A deeper look a few weeks ago would have already uncovered it. But also the hectic search for each thing she needed out of her room. Her complains about missing things. We only found one thing really missing after all. All puzzle pieces were complete – simply a wonder for me after seeing my child’s cleaning system. A shoe of Dandelion Barbie is gone for good. This is really dramatic. The top Barbie of the gang! Well life can be tough sometimes…Now I am not surprised why it is absolutely impossible to keep only for more than 24 hours a simple structure in our house. I am living with a genius – because only a genius can oversee such a disaster. I am still impressed by the systematic stuffing of bags and boxes and anything with a hallow in it. Not one bag was empty, not one box, nor any other space. Just there where the stuff was suppose to be… was lots of space. Want to come and help in two months? You might learn something for life!
