Film Making Workshop for Teenagers (In Indonesian)
Friday – Sunday. 10 – 17 October
09:00 – 16:00. Indus Restaurant, Bottom Floor.
As part of their BALINALE 2008 Film Festival program, the Bali Taksu Indonesia Foundation presents this Film Making Workshop for teenagers. Taught by an award-winning local film-maker, this will be a hands-on introduction to the basics of the film-making process. Participants will produce their own short film during the workshop on the UWRF’s 2008 theme, Tri Hata Karana.  The resulting films will be screened during both Festivals.
Suitable for ages 15 – 18.

Let’s Go Green by Making Compost (In Indonesian)

Nature has helped us in many ways and now it is our turn to help nature. One way we can help nature is to recycle and making compost is a simple way to recycle your organic household waste. Telling My Own Story Workshop (Bilingual)

A Monkey Forest Adventure (In Indonesian)

Enter the magical Monkey Forest and listen to the exciting and funny stories of ‘Pan Godogan’ – a native Balinese storyteller. Get to know the old forest trees and watch the amusing monkeys at play. Putting Words to Music and Music to Words (Bilingual)

New Music composers, Syahrial and Fahmi Alatas will teach you how to create musical instruments from whatever junk you have lying around at home. Meanwhile poet, Debra H. Yatim, will help you to write a poem about the Ubud environment and set it to music. A dynamic, hands on workshop. Bring your own junk. For middle and high school students only. Feature Writing Workshop  (In Indonesian)

News is not always about crucial events on a national scale, nor does it have to be about politics or the economy. In fact, feature writing in the media these days tends to give more attention to daily events on a local scale. In this workshop, Dewi Ria Utari will share some tips and tricks of the trade and teach you how to develop successful feature stories from your day-to-day experiences.

Fiction Writing for Children Workshop

A workshop on writing in different genres ranging from picture books to children's novels. The importance of the illustrator to picture books. How to find an illustrator. Bali Street Dogs : Short Story Writing Workshop (bilingual)
Saturday 18 October
10:00 – 12:00. Balai Banjar, Ubud Kelod
Bali dogs are an exceedingly smart, hardy and unique breed of dog and the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival is holding a short story writing contest in honor of this lovable canine. Reda Gaudiamo, published short story writer, will help you to create your own story about these marginalised dogs. Vets from the Bali Animal Welfare Association (BAWA) will also join the workshop to share invaluable tips on caring for your Bali Dog. Suitable for ages 7- 12. Sponsored by Freeport & BAWA

Making a Giant Painting (Bilingual)
Sunday 19 October
10:00 – 12:00. Balai Banjar, Ubud Kelod
Kerry Pendergrast leads this poetry and art workshop that takes its inspiration from the Festival’s theme of “Tri Hita Karana” or “God, Man and Nature”. Children will write a collaborative poem titled Kebun Saya, My Garden, then create a giant acrylic painting inspired by the poem. The painting and poem will then be displayed at the Balai Banjar for the duration of the Festival. Suitable for ages 3-8. Sponsored by Freeport

Making Puppets from leaves ( Bilingual)
Sunday, 19 October
2- 4 pm at Pondok Pekak Library.
Me and My Shadows will perform "Pedo Pore" a unique and playful tale, written by Susan Allen, of peculiar creatures that live in the Monkey Forest, Ubud. Enjoy learning about their interesting habits, habitat and antics.  Something changes in the life and times of the creatures when they begin to disagree. Take part in this participatory, musical and visual performance and later create your own leaf puppets to try out behind the screen and
